Greater Saphenous vein is completely removed in this operation. A special wire is introduced into the vein at the ankle and the whole vein is stripped by pulling this wire from another incision made at the groin. Remaining varicose veins are removed from separate incisions 3 -5 cm in length causing ugly scars.
I have abandoned this approach in 1997.
